SARAH ASHWOOD-BLACKWELL

What motivates you as a writer?

To tell the stories in my head and bring to life the characters who live in my mind.

What types of books do you like to read?

I have varied tastes. I’ll try all sorts of genres, but I prefer fantasy, fairy tale fantasy, historical fiction, Christian historical fiction, and non-fiction (mostly historical).

How has becoming a writer affected your own reading habits?

Being a writer hasn’t, but being a mother has. With four children, I simply don’t have the reading time I used to have. I miss the days when I could read two to three books a week.

Nursing student Ellie St. James didn’t mean to get involved in a war between rival gangs of shifters, but saving the life of a local mob boss’s child has dragged her into one. When Ellie’s life is threatened because of her involvement, she’s forced to go on the run, protected by Carter Ballis, head of security for the mobster’s family, and a lethal shifter himself.

Blood, fire, and warfare weren’t part of Ellie’s plans, but even if she survives, her life will never be the same. The world is more than she knew, and she’s seen too much. People capable of morphing into deadly creatures from legends and folklore around the globe are coming for her.

The cost of staying alive means trusting Carter to defend her, and he’s every bit as frightening as the creatures that want her dead…

The mystery of other worlds is not one Hannah Winters ever dreamed she’d solve. She also never counted on meeting an elderly stranger bearing an enchanted moonstone during her evening run; a stranger claiming to have crossed from another world in search of that realm’s promised deliverer. Her.

Protests have no sway with the visitor, and Hannah finds herself transported to Aerisia, a mysterious land beyond Earth’s sunsets. Here, Hannah is believed to be the Artan, a legendary heroine prophesied to oppose the dreaded Dark Powers. Majestic fairies, the immortal Simathe, and the peaceful Moonkind are all willing to help her discover her true identity, but Hannah’s just an ordinary college student from Earth. She doesn't have any latent magical abilities and she’s not the Artan.

Unfortunately, her allies aren't seeing it that way. Neither are her enemies. In fact, Hannah’s life is in jeopardy from the moment she arrives in Aerisia, which means becoming the Artan may be the only way to survive…

Will shocking revelations about her heritage push her away or convince her that she’s walking the right path? Eight years after Annie Richards’ stellar voice and musical talents skyrocketed her from rural Oklahoma to international fame, haunting visions have begun threatening her sanity. While she’s returning to her childhood home to convalesce, creatures straight from her nightmares bring down her plane. Annie wakens in a parallel world, Aerisia. Here, she discovers her musical gifts translate into magical powers—the legacy of a banished race who have been invading her dreams.

Mistrusted by Aerisia’s most powerful factions because of her heritage, Annie finds allies are hard to come by. Supporting her are one immortal warrior who refuses to label her as evil, and one woman willing to stand against anything and anyone to help a friend: the Artan herself. Seizing control of her destiny will mean defying both her ancestors and the Aerisian leaders. Mastering her magic may mean making the greatest sacrifice of all…or risk becoming the reason Aerisia itself is torn apart.
