What motivates you as a writer?

As a new father, I was dismayed by how many books still presented girls as either extremely feminine or overly masculine. I want to write stories that showcase girls as they actually are; fierce and feminine, polite and powerful, and everything in between.
What types of books do you like to read?

I read to my daughter every night. At the moment she is devouring all of the Princess in Black books as well as the entire Ivy & Bean series.
How has becoming a writer affected your own reading habits?
​
My story ideas can come from anywhere. Sometimes they might get sparked from reading another author's work, or they might pop up while watching TV or talking to a friend. Memorable stories speak to something more than just the words on the page, they illuminate a universal truth. And those truly original stories can sometimes come from the banalest of origins.
